COMMENTARY ON THE
GOSPEL ACCORDING TO SAINT THOMAS
Logion 45

45. Jesus said, "Grapes are not harvested from thorns, nor are figs gathered from thistles, for they produce no fruit. A good man bringeth forth good from his storehouse; an evil man bringeth forth evil things from his evil storehouse, which is in his heart, and saith evil things. For out of the abundance of the heart he bringeth forth evil things." Mt 7:16-20 (Cf. Lk 6:43-45)
"Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit…."

Mt 12:33-35
"Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit. O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things."
