COMMENTARY ON THE
GOSPEL ACCORDING TO SAINT THOMAS
Logion 43

43. His disciples said to him, "Who art thou, that thou should say these things unto us?"
Jesus said unto them, "Ye know not who I am from what I say unto you, but ye have become like unto the Jews, for they either love the tree and hate its fruit or love the fruit and hate the tree."
Mt 7:16-20 (Cf. Th 45)
"Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them."
