Logion 40
| 40. Jesus said, A grapevine hath been planted outside of the Father, but hath not established itself;
it will be pulled up by its roots and be destroyed. |

therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. |

In connection with logion 39, this saying seems to relate to the Jewish institution of the day, which was being established in disunity, without inspiration from the Father.
Only nourishment from above could establish a true and living Church.
Destruction is the only fate of falsehood.
Matthew divides up the grapevine identifying it with a personal knowledge of truth that must bear good fruit (Cf. Th. 43 and 45.
