Logion 5

5. Jesus said, "Learn to know what is before your face, and that which is hidden from you will be revealed unto you. For there is nothing hidden that will not become manifest."
The Greek adds:
"…and nothing buried that will not rise again."
Mk 4:22
Jesus said, "Tell no lies, and do not that which ye hate, for all things are revealed in truth before Heaven. For nothing hidden will not become manifest, and nothing covered will remain without being uncovered."

Jesus speaks in logia 3 and 39 about the keys of knowledge being kept hidden. To those who would strive to know the mysteries, Jesus replies that the object of such striving should be what is plainly in front of us. By proceeding in small steps from the known to the unknown we may eventually have all that was once hidden and mysterious become clear and understood. In logion 5 as also in Mark (4:22) the sense seems to be that the time will come when private knowledge will be made public.

Notice that the structure of logion 5 (with the Greek addition) is something like: A and B therefore C (and D). On the other hand the structure the Markian parallel is more like: A and B therefore C therefore D and E. The Greek addition (D) completes the structure with a reference to the resurrection answering, manifest when? The Markian parallel may well have a structural interloper in (C) referring to celestial omniscience answering, manifest to whom?
