The following version is an extract from Platos Republic, Book X.1 Plato expounds on the principle of justice and judgement.2 For him the soul of man has three parts, one governed by the appetites, one by action and vigor, the third by wisdom, i.e., philosophy.3 In this work he takes this tripartite division and shows how it holds for life of society in an ideal state. In book ten he concludes his logical analysis and arguments by reaffirming the immortality of the soul, the eternal nature of justice, and thus the importance of our every action and decision in life. |
