3The Greek word translated as “wisdom” is sophia. This is the root of “philosophy” meaning ‘love of wisdom.’ For the ancients of the Greek tradition wisdom became a veritable female object of worship. With her was wedded the rule of ‘reason’, i.e., logos, the ‘word.’
