| We discuss compound sentences in this chapter and try to delay discussion of the compounding of other elements to chapter 10. The compounding of other elements will be seen to be related in definite ways to the compounding of sentences. Logically there appear to be at least four basic relationships that might obtain between the propositions represented by independent clauses in a compound sentence. Other elements compounded exhibit at least three of these four relationships. We begin with a discussion of these four basic relationships. |
